About the AI Literacy Tutorial

This tutorial focuses on the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and provides an introduction to GenAI, including general use, prompts and outputs, ethical considerations, appropriate tasks, and key terminology.

The tutorial includes five foundational modules that allow you to build essential GenAI skills.

This AI Literacy Tutorial was originally designed for University of Saskatchewan staff, faculty, and students. It is now available to anyone. Because of this, you may notice that the content is framed within a USask context. That being said, you will still find many practical tips for applying this knowledge to your own use of AI.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

Define key GenAI terms and concepts, including how GenAI differs from other types of AI.
Identify appropriate AI tools for specific tasks and understand their unique functions.
Apply effective prompting strategies to improve GenAI outputs and recognize how prompts differ from internet searches.
Evaluate the accuracy and bias of GenAI outputs by questioning data sources and training limitations.
Describe ethical, moral, and security concerns related to GenAI, including issues of misuse, bias, and harm.
Apply USask’s AI principles and data privacy classifications to common GenAI use scenarios.
Document and attribute AI use transparently using appropriate citation practices.
Explain the importance of AI literacy for responsible use in academic, personal, and professional contexts.
